Interior Style: The Textile Tailor

Interior Style: The Textile Tailor

Turning her passion for sewing and creation into a career, Jill Stroh created a new market of service when she founded The Textile Tailor. Designing modern looks for home, Stroh can turn something old new again or create something from scratch. Being in the real estate industry, I’ve grown a true love for home interiors, especially during the design and build process of my own home. Finding one-of-a-kind pieces is always an added touch that makes a home stand out. Whether it’s a pillow or an accent rug, I know those details are what makes a house a home. This week I got to browse all of the unique pieces by The Textile Tailor and connect with the girl boss in creation.

Q: Tell us a bit about the textile tailor? When did you start? What makes the business unique?

The Textile Tailor came about from good old fashioned word of mouth! A friend of mine who knew I sewed mentioned me to a friend of hers who started her own design company (Hoodridge Design) and it just started from there. In the summer of 2017 I worked on a little girls room with Katie from Hoodridge Design and it was so much fun! I knew I wanted to continue with it and so The Textile Tailor was born. I had always sewn growing up and was constantly making things so I guess you could say I found my calling. I think The Textile Tailor is unique in that I am truly a custom oriented business when it comes to the textiles in your home. My range of services is vast, from hemming curtains that are now too long for your window in your new home to helping you re-create that picture you pinned on Pinterest of those pillows you love!

Q: Who is your typical clientele?

I currently work with Katie Skocik owner of Hoodridge Designs as I sew custom treatments for her clients and the rooms they are re-doing, which has been so much fun to be a part of the design process and see a room come to life. I also do work on my own as I have homeowners contacting me directly for small requests. A lot of people contact me who have lived in their house for a few years and are finally getting to a few things on their to do list that need some décor attention. I also get homeowners who are tired of what they have up on their window and looking for something new. I keep things as simple and streamlined as possible when working with clients. help guide them in choosing the best types and style of fabric, that way the end result is sure to meet (or exceed) their expectations!

Q: What would you say your typical project entails?

My typical projects are usually, custom curtain panels, roman shades, pillows and window seat cushions. However, I have recovered dining room chair seats, made table runners, and lampshades. I am always up for a challenge.

Q: We noticed you’re planning to launch a shop in addition to your services. What’s the scoop?

I am working on creating an online pillow shop. Pillows are an easy way to switch up the color palette in a room or just add more visual interest without changing much else. The online shop would allow people to either buy ready made or custom pillows. The custom route will allow you to pick your fabric and finishes like brass zippers, trims, and pillow size. I am always on the look out for great fabric and often have fabric leftover from other jobs that would make amazing pillows and I can’t let a good thing go to waste, so stay tuned!

Q: Do you have any advice for the working mom?

My advice for the working mom or any mom for that matter because all moms work, is to not be so hard on yourself! Things at times can seem impossible to do or get done, but if you keep going you often find at the end of the day you accomplished what you thought was impossible!

Q: What’s a favorite that inspires you in business?

I don’t think any one person inspires me in business, its more like a scenario that I find inspiring and keeps me going with what I do. I love being able to bring a sense of pride and happiness into someone’s home by giving them a final product that they love. A close second is working with people who share that same passion and drive for what they do, its infectious and I love that!
