Adopting A Pet Checklist

Posted by Kate Oczypok on September 17, 2017  /  in Blog, Giving Back, News, Pets  /  Comments off

During an adopt-a-pet benefit sponsored by Coldwell Banker, Pittsburgh Property Diva and her lovely family adopted a dog and cat! After congratulating her family on these wonderful additions, we were inspired to write a post on adopting a pet. If you’re thinking of adding to your family in the form of a furry loved one, here are some things to keep in mind.

1. Do you have any current pets?

If you have current animals living with you, you’ll need to make sure they get along with your new pet you are planning to bring in. Ask questions at the adoption center to make sure your new pet gets along with other members of its same species.

2. Does your living space accommodate your pet?

Are you looking for an active dog but live in a one or two-bedroom condo? You may want to reconsider a dog that doesn’t require as much exercise, or perhaps think about a cat.

3. How does your work situation match with your pet?

If you’re choosing to adopt a cat, you won’t have too many issues working full-time. If you are going to get a dog and working from home, you should be good as far as being around for walks. If you are choosing a dog and working out of the home, you’ll need to have a dog walker lined up.

4. Choose a vet and groomer.

Make your life easier and have a veterinarian and groomer ready to go. If you have some lined up and ready, you will be more at ease when your new pet comes home with you.

5. Microchip and register your pet.

Make sure you get your pet registered and microchipped when you bring them home. More often than not, the adoption center can help you with getting all of that together.

6. Introduce your little human family members slowly.

Dogs and babies sure are cute, but it is important to remember to gradually introduce your new pet to your small children in your household. That way, you are avoiding any potential bad interactions.

7. Consider behavioral training.

If you are adopting a new puppy, you may want to consider behavioral training for them. That way, they can learn how to behave around guests, bathroom habits and more.

Rescueing a dog or cat can be one of the kindest and most fulfilling things you can do… you just need to be prepared.  Here are Spike, the dog and Ollie, the cat.  Welcome to the family!

Congrats to Dawn – Winner of my Holiday Steelers Tickets “Give Back”

Posted by Lauren Klein on December 22, 2016  /  in Awards, Blog, Holidays In Pittsburgh  /  Comments off

Thanks to all who liked, shared and commented on my Giving Back For the Holidays post! It’s always great to have a little fun with my clients and followers, and always exciting to give a great big THANK YOU to all the wonderful people in my life.

A special congratulations goes to Dawn… the mother of Ben and Carl, from Squirrel Hill.  She is the winner of the Steelers/Ravens tickets to see the game at Heinz Field on Christmas Day.  I met Dawn at Starbucks to present her with her tickets… and to my surprise she had some small gifts for me as well.  Talk about grateful!  We spent about an hour together and it was indeed a charming and enlightening experience.  Dawn explained to me that she was especially grateful for this Christmas because she was finally going to have both of her sons with her at the same time… only to find out she won the tickets.  So what does a mother do…?  Ben and Carl are now going to the Steelers game while mom cheers them on from the comfort of her living room on Christmas day.

A mother myself… it brought tears to my eyes.  It’s what we do.  Thanks, Dawn, for a wonderful time and being such a great mom!  And thanks again to everyone for helping me help YOU achieve the dream of home ownership in Pittsburgh.  The pleasure is always mine.

My Favorite Holiday Spots and Activities in Pittsburgh

Posted by Lauren Klein on December 10, 2016  /  in Blog, Dowtown Pittsburgh, Holidays In Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Things To Do in Pittsburgh  /  Comments off

There’s nothing I love more than seeing Pittsburgh get all dressed up for the holidays. If you don’t already feel a connection to the City of Steel, I think you may after you visit some of my favorite holiday spots. Grab your coat, your hat and your family, and head out for a wintry night (or day, or both!) on the town.

While there’s holiday fun all over the city (check out this great list of things to do in Pittsburgh over the Holidays ), my favorites are right downtown. There’s so much to see and do!

If you’ve got some shopping to take care of, you can find local, hand-made gifts at the Peoples Gas Holiday Market in Market Square. This is an awesome experience, and I’ve found many great gifts here over the years. Once you’ve checked off everyone on your list, you can visit the Big Guy himself for a photo op. (If you bring a donation to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, the photo is free!)

After you’ve seen everything at Market Square, there’s even more at PPG Place. If skating is your thing, find the perfect holiday skating experience at the MassMutual Ice Rink (click for information on hours, etc). It’s even bigger than the one at Rockefeller Center! Also at PPG Place is the Wintergarden, which features a display of Santas from around the world, as well as a gingerbread exhibit. Your kiddos are sure to love this!

If you’ve got energy left after all this (and I hope you do!), hop on the Holly Trolley or a horse-drawn carriage for a tour of all the spectacular holiday decorations and lights that downtown has to offer. This is my favorite part! Maybe take along a hot coffee or cocoa to keep you warm.

I love this beautiful time of year, and I hope the coming weeks bring you and yours much joy. If there’s anything I can help you with in your real estate journey, please get in touch!

Several months back, Maniac Magazine invited me to be featured for my work as the Pittsburgh Property Diva. I even got a cover shoot out of the deal! It was a great honor AND a total blast.

Chris went with me to the photo shoot at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. What a gorgeous facility! I had an amazing time with the folks at Maniac, as well as my fellow cover subjects. Chris captured some fun behind-the-scenes shots. As you can see, we celebrated accordingly when the shoot was done!

When the best REALLY IS the best

Posted by Chris Klein on September 19, 2016  /  in Blog, Buyers, Sellers, Testimonials  /  Comments off

Lauren’s talent and dedication to her clients constantly amaze me. Her reviews are always such a pleasure to read, and this one was too good not to share. I thought I’d turn it into a guest post for the blog. I want to thank Jason for taking the time to share his kind words for Lauren; they mean a lot to us.

When the best REALLY IS the best

By Jason Beattie

At the beginning of this year, my wife, Alicia, and I knew that we had some big real estate transactions in our near future. Our 5-year-old son, Mason, is an active guy, and we were quickly outgrowing our first home. On top of that, kindergarten was coming up in the fall. Our dream was to be in the Plum School District because of the fantastic schools for Mason, so we decided we’d start looking for a great real estate agent who could help us sell our Pittsburgh home and buy a new one within our limited timeframe.

We found Lauren on Zillow, where she came up as a preferred agent. Looking at all her reviews and numbers, it was clear that she was the best choice. But I was leery. Sometimes working with the best really isn’t the best; I worried she’d be so busy with all her clients that she wouldn’t have time to give us the guidance and support we knew we’d need.

I can say unequivocally that all those reservations disappeared after our initial interview with Lauren. She was so prepared, knowledgeable and approachable, we knew she’d be our agent even before the meeting was over. We hired her, and it was the best decision we could have possibly made.

The first step was to sell our house. Lauren was brilliant and fair in her advice, telling us exactly what our house was worth and at which price point it would not only sell, but sell quickly. She could not have been more spot-on, and our house sold in five days. It was unbelievable.

From there we had to find our new home. The fourth house we looked at with Lauren was the one we fell in love with. From the moment we walked through the door, we knew it was where we were meant to be. But putting the deal together proved difficult, and had it not been for Lauren’s impressive knowledge, consummate professionalism and unwavering dedication, we would have lost our dream home.

The difficulties began when our home inspector (a top-notch referral from Lauren) found several major system repairs that the home needed in order to be a safe place for our family. The seller was cash-strapped and unable to make the repairs that we knew we needed. Their agent floundered, and the deal began to unravel. In came Lauren with her broad network of certified contractors, who agreed to make the repairs to the home and allow the sellers to pay them after the sale of the home. It was a win for everyone, and the deal went through. We were in our beautiful, safe home by May, giving us plenty of time to get settled and get Mason ready for kindergarten at a stellar school in the Plum School District.

For everything that Lauren did for us, we are forever grateful. I cannot possibly say enough about her endless knowledge, her professional connections, her kind demeanor and her never-ending responsiveness. She answered every question we had within minutes of receiving it; I’m not kidding. In my own job as a corporate banker, responsiveness to clients is of the utmost importance. I hold myself to the highest standards in that regard, and even according to my own standards Lauren put me to shame! She was truly amazing.

There is a reason Lauren has a reputation as the best, and frankly…it’s because she is. In her we found not only an irreplaceable real estate agent, we also found a friend. Someone we will remember and refer our closest friends and family to any time they need real estate guidance. When we have our housewarming party, she’ll be on the invite list! Thank you so much, Lauren!

Fall… the Best of Pittsburgh

Posted by Lauren Klein on September 12, 2016  /  in Blog, Pittsburgh  /  Comments off

My friends know that I love a good cup of coffee… and sitting outside this morning on my back porch, I noticed a little more steam rising from my cup than usual… the morning air is starting to change.   You can almost smell fall…  right around the corner!

What does fall mean to Pittsburgh?  Well… the obvious is football!  The Steelers season kicks off tonite…  Pitt Football  is in high gear after a great win over Penn State… but those of you who know me understand that football isn’t my greatest passion… of course it’s real estate.

Fall is a time of comfort here in Pittsburgh… cooler temps, warm coffee, a trip down to the Strip for some great food.   The colors in the surrounding hills amplify the beauty of Western Pennsylvania.

Pittsburgh Magazine captured some great pictures of fall in this blog post.
